WalkPlanner ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that helps you plan loop routes for running and walking and track active sessions. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles and how it is used.

Information We Collect
Location data
With your permission, WalkPlanner accesses your device GPS location to:
- Center the map on your current position
- Generate loop routes near you
- Track distance, pace, and progress during an active run or walk
Location is used while you plan routes and during active tracking sessions (including when a foreground notification is shown). We do not upload your live GPS track to our servers.
Data stored on your device
The app may store the following locally:
- Completed session records (distance, duration, route details, timestamps)
- User preferences (such as imperial or metric units)
- Cached OpenStreetMap tiles and nearby street/path data for offline use
This data remains on your device unless you clear app storage or uninstall the app.
Network requests
When you generate routes, the app sends requests to public OpenStreetMap services (including the Overpass API) to fetch map and routing data for your area. These requests may include approximate geographic coordinates needed to retrieve nearby streets and paths. WalkPlanner identifies itself with a descriptive User-Agent that includes support@walkplanner.app.
How We Use Information
Information handled by WalkPlanner is used solely to:
- Provide route suggestions and map display
- Track and save your walking and running sessions
- Improve reliability with cached map and routing data when connectivity is limited
- Remember your in-app settings
We do not use your data for advertising profiles or cross-app tracking.
Permissions
WalkPlanner may request the following Android permissions:
- Location — route planning and live session tracking
- Internet & network state — fetch map data and check connectivity
- Foreground service (location) — continue tracking during an active session
- Wake lock — keep tracking accurate while a session is active and not paused
Data Sharing
WalkPlanner does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Map and routing queries are sent to third-party OpenStreetMap infrastructure operated by the OpenStreetMap Foundation and community contributors. Please refer to OpenStreetMap Foundation Privacy Policy for information about how those services handle requests.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or security of users and the public.
Data Retention
Session history and preferences are kept on your device until you delete them or remove the app. Cached map tiles and routing data expire automatically (map tiles follow OSMDroid cache settings; routing cache expires after seven days).
Children's Privacy
WalkPlanner is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Your Choices
- You can deny or revoke location permission in Android settings; route planning and tracking will be limited without it.
- You can clear app data or uninstall WalkPlanner to remove locally stored sessions and preferences.
- Android backup settings may allow Google to back up app data according to your device configuration.
Security
We design WalkPlanner to keep sensitive activity data on your device. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect information handled by the app.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of WalkPlanner after changes means you accept the updated policy.
